Tehran is quite a quiet place on Fridays, and seems to be particularly so during a times of mourning. Tehran is covered in Khomeini's face to mark his death 15 years ago. I had hoped to go down to his shrine to see if the tales of total chaos during the event are true, but missed it by one day. For some reason they mark the event one day early.
Because of my hope to get to Tehran for the event I went straight from the border and arrived in the city early Friday morning.
I have already noticed some interesting differences from my last visit here almost two years ago but have yet to determine whether these have to do more with the period of mourning or are due to more permanent changes.
I'll post more on this soon.
