Mashad today, Herat tomorrow
I took an overnight train to Mashad from Tehran last (Friday) night and got here around 10:30am. The main 'attraction' of sorts is the shrine to Emam Reza and the thousands of pilgrims in the city.
I will be heading into Afghanistan Sunday morning.
Given that I have talked a bit about the poor traffic in this country over the past few weeks I thought this statistic in a BBC story about the tanker crash near Zahedan was interesting:
Around 22,000 people are killed every year in traffic accidents across Iran.
